So you’re looking to create your home office and you’re not quite sure where to get started. Well first, Congratulations! Having a home office is a huge rite of passage into the world of career independence. Of course you want to create a space that reflects that, as well as a space that reflects you. Here are some tips on creating an enviable home office.
Get The Right Furniture
Furniture is the foundation of any home office. You’ll want it to be functional, providing as much space as you’ll need to effectively complete tasks throughout the day. Your choice of furniture will depend on your business type and space available. Regardless of this, you should ensure you have sufficient lighting and that the furniture is ergonomic to prevent muscle aches and pain. Pottery Barn is a great place to start your search. For more budget friendly options you can check out IKEA.
Choose a Color Scheme
A color scheme is your choice of complementary colors intended to bring harmony to your home office space. A good place to start is to base your colors on your furniture. If you have an earthy type wood work desk and chair, consider sticking to neutral colors. Pastels when combined with white adds a feminine flare. Sites like Pottery Barn suggests complementary items that can be added, so you can get the color scheme you desire.
Your home office space should really inspire you, and remind you of the reasons you got started in the first place. One of the best ways to do this is to add prints. One of my favorite places for prints is Etsy. You can find thousands of prints featuring quotes reminding you to always honor your inner girl boss. If you’re the DIY type, you can also make prints yourself in PicMonkey or Adobe Photoshop. You can also check out other options for personalizing your space such as wall hangings and wall decals.
Get Glam with Office Supplies
Office supplies have really changed over the years from being standard and boring, to pretty and exciting. Gold staplers, paper weights, and pencils can really add a touch of glam to just about any office space. Some of my favorite places to shop for cute office supplies include Target and TjMaxx. Other great options are Pottery Barn and of course popular handmade marketplace, Etsy.
