The college beauty essentials you’ll need were probably the last thing on your mind when you went shopping for back to school. And well, who could blame you? Beauty essentials are just not what we think of when we think of school. If you plan to live on campus, however, these essentials may be just as important as any textbook or backpack.
The thing is you’re going to want to make your dorm room experience as close to home as it can possibly be. Living on campus, is no different from having your own place. You’ll want to get into a new beauty routine or simply continue your old one. You’ll also want to prepared in the event of an interview, public speaking engagement, a party, or a date.
So you’ve probably seen tons of college essentials tips by now focusing on the school supplies you’ll need to rock the semester. For today’s post, however, I’ll be focusing on the college beauty essentials you’ll need to maintain soft, beautiful skin. Check it out!
Although you’re probably going to be super busy throughout the year, the one thing you shouldn’t neglect is cleansing your face, especially after you wear makeup. That’s where micellar water comes in. It’s great for removing makeup, nourishing skin, and is far more economical than makeup wipes. My micellar water of choice is Simple’s Micellar Water. I also tried Pacifica’s Micellar Cleansing Tonic and it’s great option. Both are available at the drugstore and can last for months.
A 3 Step System
Micellar water is great and all, but it’s not that great. You’ll still need a great 3 step skincare system to thoroughly clean and prevent clogged pores from makeup. A 3 step system is going to consist of a cleanser, toner, and moisturizer. Clinique’s 3 step system is simply rave-worthy, and you can buy their 3 step kit which comes in a bag zip bag perfect for storing in your dorm room.
The skin around your eyes can tell a lot, from your age to signs of sleep deprivation. Since there are going to be a lot of sleepless nights in your future, as well as stress, you’re going to need a good moisturizing eye cream. Cerave’s Eye Repair Cream keeps fine lines and wrinkles from stress at bay, hydrates, and reduces the look of dark circles.
When it comes to college beauty essentials, lip balm ranks pretty high on the list. They are great for everyday wear, and are perfect for keeping your lips soft and moisturized. You’ll especially appreciate having one on hand during the cold winter months when your lips tend to get dry and chapped.
Welcome to college, where you’ll have lots of long days, late nights and dark circles around your eyes. I basically wear mine as a badge of honor. You’ll need a good concealer to cover your dark circles as well as any scars or spots you may have on your face. Estee Lauder’s Double Wear Concealer is oil free, has excellent coverage, and lasts all day. It’s so good I often go without foundation.
An Electric Shaver
You can always tell when a girl has let herself go, just look at her legs. Don’t be that girl. An electric shaver is perfect for maintaining smooth skin. My electric shaver of choice is the Panasonic Close Curves Shaver. It lasts much longer than razors, it’s way more economical, and is rechargeable. Best of all it even works in the shower!
So a good shaving cream is going to go hand in hand with a good electric razor. Shaving cream is necessary for giving you a close shave, reducing the incidence of razor bumps and leaving your skin soft and smooth. A great shaving cream to check out is Shave Cream by EOS. You can pick it up at Ulta for just $3.99.
For skin that becomes dull from a lack of sleep, face masks are a savior. Face masks are great for rejuvenating skin and treating other skincare concerns such as acne. Face masks such as the Tony Moly I’m Real Mask Sheets work wonders and are easy to use and store. You can get a variety pack of 11 on Amazon for just $9.89. Don’t have Amazon Prime? Since you’re probably going to be using a shared shower, a body wash is the most definitely the way to go. It’s easier to carry around, lasts long, and much more hygienic than soap. Giovanni’s Invigorating Body Wash is an all natural, organic, and super affordable. You can find the 33.8 oz at Marshall’s for just $9.99.
Washing your hair every couple of days is going to become a luxury you’ll have no time for. Trust me. Dry shampoo is great for keeping your locks smelling amazing, and reviving hair that is limp from the accumulation of oil. As far as college beauty essentials go this is a must have. My dry shampoo of choice is Batiste Dry Shampoo. It’s so good I even carry around a mini in my purse.
Speaking of minis, of course you’re going to need something to carry around all your beauty essentials in. A nice makeup bag will come in handy for carrying around your lip balm, and compact just in case you’re in need of a quick touch up. I don’t know about you but whenever I think makeup bags, I think Target. This makeup bag by Dabney Lee is super cute and a steal.
Travel Sized Iron
So speaking of college outings, life doesn’t stop now that you’re a college girl. There will be days where you’ll want to get done up, probably sport a nice sleek style. A flat iron will come in handy for days when you need to up the ante, say for a date or a job interview.
Try to get a travel sized iron since space in your dorm room is probably going to be limited. Try to get an iron with at least a 1 inch plate so it will be just as effective as a larger iron.
