|The key to a great all nighter is a good cup of Lipton Tea|
Part of being a good college student includes attending classes, keeping up with assignments, and studying days ahead for your exams. While I’m usually able to juggle all my college duties, sometimes life comes at you, suddenly you have multiple papers due on top of midterms and other responsibilities. Somewhere between trying not to lose my mind, and getting everything done, I know I’m going to have to pull an all nighter to stay on track. Pulling an all nighter is no laughing matter, and if not done right can take an already stressful situation to a whole new level. That’s why I’ve compiled these tips for having an effective overnight study session. Read on for my 5 must use tips.
Drink Tea Not Coffee

As someone who swears by tea for just about everything, I’m almost always gulping down a cup throughout the day. With that being said, for everybody else there are a ton of reasons why you should be drinking tea while studying. For one thing, teas like black tea and chai tea contain caffeine which is basically natures energizer. If there is anything you’re going to need for an all night study session, it’s energy. Teas such as black tea are also a huge stress fighters, and can actually help you to keep stress levels down (tired and stressed college students are no fun). Also tea unlike coffee, is the next best thing to water to help you stay hydrated.

Take Study Breaks
When you are pulling an all nighter it can feel like you are going against the clock to complete everything on time. For that reason your study session can feel rushed, and you may be tempted to read for hours at a time. Big mistake! Not only will you not retain as much information, you will also be left feeling overwhelmed. That’s why it is extremely necessary that you take study breaks as a way to refresh your mind. A neat study break hack I learned some years ago, is to take a 15 minutes break for every 40 minutes of reading. In those 15 minutes feel free to walk around, stretch, have a cup of Lipton Tea, and unwind with music if you have to. Trust me, it makes a huge difference!
Study In Groups
Depending on how it’s done, study groups can be a huge time waster or an effective study technique. When pulling an all nighter, I like to think of it as an effective study technique. I mean who wants to stay up all night studying alone? A study group can keep a check on you to ensure that you don’t get distracted. The exchange of ideas is also a great way to master the material at hand. Just be careful who you invite to your overnight study session, you don’t want to end up spending the time talking about celebrities instead of actually getting work done.
Create a Study Friendly Environment

So what does a study friendly environment look like? Well for one thing, it probably doesn’t include your phone. I mean it, stay away from it, hide it if you have to. Also keep all study materials nearby. There have been times where I have gotten up to get a pen or a book, and ended up watching tv for an hour. Also ensure you are studying at a desk with a lamp, and a chair to help maintain an upright seating position. While your bed may seem like a good idea, you’re going to regret it once you wake up and realized you slept through the whole thing.
Choose Your Day Carefully
Pick your study day carefully. It may not be a good idea to pull an all nighter on a day where you’re already tired and overwhelmed from work or extra curricular activities. Studying while tired or stressed is pretty much like not studying at all. Also pulling an all nighter under such conditions is not good your general well-being. My ideal day is usually a weekend day where I know I’ll have a day or two to recuperate. If you’re not able to study on the weekend choose a day that is relatively free of classes or other commitments. You don’t want to left in a bad state after an overnight study session, so take choose your time wisely.
